First you want to use CopyTrans TuneTastic, a program which will allow you to automatically find and delete iTunes duplicate tracks.
- Open CopyTrans TuneTastic by double-clicking on the downloaded CopyTransTuneTastic.exe file
- Wait for the program to load: it will communicate with your iTunes and identify problems with your library which need attention
- Now click on the Eye button in the duplicates section as shown below
- You will be presented with the list of tracks and the album(s) in which the duplicates appear
- This is where the strength of this program when it comes to correctly identifying your duplicates tracks comes from:
- The whole album will all tracks will be shown
- All duplicate tracks (including originals) are clearly marked with an orange circular icon
- Once you click on any track with a circular icon, you will be presented with a list of two (or more) tracks on the right-hand side
- You will see details about each track, in the form of 5 badges such as
- whether it is found in the iTunes Media folder
- whether the track was played more times than its duplicate
- the rating of the track (higher rating means higher chance it is the original rather than the duplicate)
- whether the track was played more times than its duplicate
- whether the track was played earlier than the duplicate one
- The track identified as the original will always appear as #1
- To get rid of the duplicate, simply click on the duplicate track and select "Remove from iTunes and move to trash"
- Finally, click on the Cog-wheel button in order to apply the changes
- You will now be presented with the rest of the tracks needing attention from and the albums they appear in. Ttracks whose duplicates have been removed will be shown with a tick-mark next to their listing
